Hispanicize 2015 Event RECAP – a 2-minute Audio and Foto Experience

20150319_151109-1 Early this Sunday morning, I decided to get truly creative and think like Weird Al Yankovic.

I woke up, wrote new lyrics to “A Few of My Favorite Things” (from The Sound of Music) to pair with my favorite moments from my five days in Miami at Hispanicize 2015 earlier this month.  Then, for the first time ever, I decided to record myself singing to bring the event recap fotos to life. Don’t laugh too hard! I only want to make Weird Al proud. 🙂

I hope you enjoy “A Few of My Hispanicize Things” – a video, audio, foto extravaganza, created for the recap contest sponsored by Target. #SinTraduccion #Hispz15

It was a tremendously beneficial week networking with brand representatives and with my Hispanicize familia, many of whom were previously known to me only on Facebook and Twitter.  I can now truly call them amigos y amigas. These people include George Torres, Lorraine Ladish, Laurita Tellado Calderón, Deborah Castillero and many more!20150319_161258-1

Due to the limitations of writing words to rhyme with an existing song, I couldn’t include everyone and everything. I did therefore, want to give a special shout out to Sprint Wireless. Sprint brought in local students to Hispanicize to meet creative innovators who are actively working as visible role models in our daily lives as socially-minded entrepreneurs.

20150316_164914-120150317_213406PLUS by displaying quotes throughout the event (as seen here) from Latino leaders like NASA Astronaut Ellen Ochoa, my fellow military veteran (and of course iconic farmworker organizer) Cesar Chavez and baseball star Roberto Clemente to launch their brilliant #SprintMentor campaign, they communicated to attendees that Sprint’s  interest in the Latino community is not limited to seeing us as consumers. 20150317_145911

The #SprintMentor campaign also sees us as a community of leaders and our family members as talented, potential Sprint employees. That to me was important, since I’ve always been always about mentoring, and because I was at the event speaking about “Latina Innovators embracing STEM” (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.) I look forward to staying in touch with Sprint to be part of this national outreach campaign.

You can download the presentation with audio (17MB) here (you can click through and try to time my singing with the slides, the lyrics below will help) or as a simple pdf here. Enjoy!

A Few of Hispanicize Things

(Sung to the tune of “A Few of My Favorite Things” from the Sound of Music)  Original lyrics by Graciela Tiscareño-Sato, CEO, Publisher, Speaker, Gracefully Global Group LLC;  GracefullyGlobal DOT com

Red-eye from Cali and really not sleeping
Shea Moisture samples and products worth keeping
Beautiful vistas that happiness brings
These are a few of Hispanicize things

Tecla Awards with Linda, Modern Latina
Meeting Lance, George Torres, Laurita & Manny
George with two Gracielas, Graciela squared he sings
These are a few of my Hispanicize things.

Sin Traduccion party, after party bashes,
Getting dolled up by Shea, both hair and eyelashes
Join girls talking tech, aviation, STEM things
Gifting sponsored books is my favorite thing

Thanks to Oracle, for sponsoring me
So I could speak this year,
I’ll often remember my Hispanicize things
Can’t wait to return….next year!
